Fall Tabletop Decorations

How are we already halfway through September?! This has been such a crazy month. The majority of the month has been gearing up for the Third Sunday Market in Bloomington, IL. It is basically a huge market of over 400 vendors from the Midwest selling vintage, handmade and antique items. Here is the link to their website if you want more information: http://www.thirdsundaymarket.com/.

This market is a huge step for us and for me personally. I have sold my items here and there on Craigslist and on online garage sale sites. I hope that this is a success although I am not sure that I want to do this market again. It is a lot of work getting ready for something of this size and since it is our FIRST show, even more work.

Inventory was one of my biggest downfalls. I found out that I was pregnant in June, so I haven’t been doing a lot of refinishing projects, but we really wanted to do this market so the last month has been quite busy. Also since I am pregnant, sanding projects has really become a problem. I don’t know what kind of paint was used, so I just asked my husband to do it for me, but he has also been busy and tired from the renovation work we have been doing. I finally convinced him to sand my old windows down so that I would have stuff to sell.

This endeavor has really been physically draining as well as creatively draining since I do not like to put the same designs on 2 windows. This is for a couple of reasons:

  1. No two windows are the same size. They are from old homes and they aren’t all the same.

  2. I don’t know if my taste in decoration, will match someone else’s taste. I don’t want to be stuck with two of the same window if the first doesn’t sell.

Besides vinyl window designs, I decided to replicate a cute tabletop decoration (mostly because my mom was going to buy it and I told her not to) that I saw at Hobby Lobby.

It’s cute and seemed simple enough. We had a 10 ft. section of a 2x6 that we had left over from another project. I had my husband cut me 1-8 in. piece, 2- 10 in. pieces, and 1- 12 in. piece. Then I painted them with orange paint (also left over from a different project).

Once they were dry, I screwed them together in the back, cut out my vinyl letters and put those on the front. Then I cut a stick that had fallen in our yard into little 2 – 3 inch pieces. I also went to hobby lobby and purchased greenery to use as the leaves. This is the final product:
