Seashell Decor

Shell Waste Basket

Materials:

  • Wide variety of shells

  • Plastic Trash Can ($3.00 at Walmart)

  • Hot Glue

This was really easy to make. Just outline the bottom of the shell with hot glue and stick it where you want it on the trash can. It's like putting a puzzle together. Some shells won't fit perfectly together so I used the smaller shells to cover up the gaps. Just make sure the shells you put on the bottom don't go over the edge or the trash can won't sit level.

Vase

For this project I used a vase that was one of the center pieces at my sister's wedding. Throw in some sand and some shells and you're finished! I think it would also look good without the sand but I like that extra beachy feel that it added.

Shadow Boxes

Materials:

  • 2 Large Shadow Boxes & 1 Small (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)

  • White Paint (optional)

  • Scrapbook paper

  • Large Shells

  • Hot Glue

Paint the outside edges and inner rims of the shadow boxes (unless you are already happy with the color). Hot glue the scrapbook paper to the back of the shadow bow so it will support the weight of the shells. Find the center of the paper and glue your shells on it.

Decorative Glass or Candle Holder

Materials:

  • Candle Holder

  • Hemp

  • Glitter

  • Shell

  • Mod Podge

  • Hot Glue

  • Painter's tape

Tape around the area that you don't want to have glitter on. Painter's tape works best since it comes off so easily. Paint Mod Podge onto the untaped area. Sprinkle glitter on the mod podge. Once it dries, paint on more mod podge to fill in the empty spaces and add more glitter. Once the whole bottom is covered in glitter and is dry, paint on modge podge one more time to seal the glitter in place so it won't get all over you everytime you touch it. After everything is dry, start hot glueing the twine by putting small amounts of glue at a time and twisting the twine around the glass tightly. When everything is finished you can glue on your shell. This can be used as a candle holder but I use mine in the bathroom to hold Q-tips.

Shell Owl

Materials:

  • Shells

  • Black & White Paint

  • Hot Glue

There really aren't specific instructions for this little guy. Every shell is different so just pick ones that are  similar to the shapes of large eyes, wings, and a beak and glue them in place. I used a flat rock for the bottom so it would stay upright. You can either paint on the eyes or even use googly eyes for this.
